Employees of 3 departments extort money for transportation of goods

Employees of the State Customs Service, the Border Service and the State Inspectorate for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Safety of Kyrgyzstan extorted money from people for unimpeded transportation of goods from Uzbekistan. Press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.

A number of officials were detained red-handed when they received a large bribe from businessmen. They took money from citizens of Kyrgyzstan for unimpeded passage of vehicles carrying goods from Uzbekistan.

There were complaints and statements from entrepreneurs with a request to take action against the officials. Based on the collected materials, the Military Prosecutor’s Office initiated a criminal case under articles 313 — extortion of bribes and taking of bribes and 304 — abuse of official position of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.

A senior inspector of the customs clearance of Kyzyl-Kiya Customs Department of Batken Customs was detained on September 29, 2018 when taking a bribe of $ 1,200 along with the inspector of the checkpoint Kyzyl-Kya-Avtozhol of the State Border Service with 2,000 soms bribe and the chief specialist of Batken Regional Department for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Safety with 1,000 soms.

During a search in the premises and office rooms of the customs officers, $ 4,000 and 4,000 soms were found. At least 11,000 soms were found under the work table in the office of the senior inspector of the State Inspectorate for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Safety, and 28,000 soms — in the office of the State Border Service.

«The money was confiscated and attached to the materials of the criminal case to establish its origin. All the detainees were put into the pretrial detention center of the Department of Interior for Osh city,» the report said.
