Deputies of Parliament elect new ombudsman of Kyrgyzstan

Deputies of the Parliament elected a new ombudsman of Kyrgyzstan — 64-year-old General of special services, public security officer Tokon Mamytov.

At least 79 deputies voted for him. Doctor of Law Kanatbek Aziz won 15 votes, human rights activist Rita Karasartova received nine votes.

Four candidates ran for the post of ombudsman: public security officer, 64-year-old General Tokon Mamytov; Doctor of Law Kanatbek Aziz; human rights activist Rita Karasartova and ex-first deputy prosecutor general Ryskul Baktabaev. Another candidate Mamaturaiym Momunov withdrew his candidacy.

Recall, Kubat Otorbaev resigned from the post of ombudsman on June 26. According to him, he made the decision deliberately and without any pressure from the outside.
