90th anniversary of Chingiz Aitmatov. Photo exhibition opened in New York

The President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbai Jeenbekov opened a photo exhibition dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the national writer of Kyrgyzstan Chingiz Aitmatov at the UN Dag Hammarskjöld Library in New York. The press service of the head of state reported.

Organizers of the photo exhibition were Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Turkey.

UN Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications Alison Smale in her speech stressed that Chingiz Aitmatov always spoke about his homeland in his works, introducing it to the rest of the world. He talked about the fundamental issues of mankind, respect for national cultures and the impact of environmental degradation on people’s lives.

«These issues are the main sustainable development goals today, which the whole world had adopted in the UN three years ago. The quote of Chingiz Aitmatov «Everything that happens in the world happens to me personally» can be used as a message that the United Nations is trying to spread in the world,» the UN Under-Secretary-General said.

The President Sooronbai Jeenbekov expressed sincere gratitude to those present for their participation in the opening of the photo exhibition.

«Aitmatov praised freedom of thought and spirit, irreconcilable struggle between the good and evil in his works. His works, which affirm the ideals of good, justice and humanism, have found their way to the hearts of readers of different countries and generations. As an outstanding humanist of the modern age, he exalted the champions of justice, people with the highest qualities of human conscience,» said Sooronbai Jeenbekov.

He recalled that the novel Jamila was highly praised by the famous French writer Louis Aragon. He called this novel the most beautiful love story, which was translated into dozens of languages, and was re-issued 37 times in German language only.

«His creative heritage rightfully belongs to the best examples of world literature. There is a whole doctrine in the world of literature — Aitmatov studies,» outlined Sooronbai Jeenbekov. «Chingiz Aitmatov actively participated in strengthening peace, humanization and development of international relations. He worthily represented his country at the world level.»

The name of Chingiz Aitmatov will always live till there are the Kyrgyz people, as long as our state — Kyrgyzstan exists and flourishes on the earth.
