Kubanychbek Kulmatov’s detention extended for one more month

Detention of ex-mayor of Bishkek, Kubanychbek Kulmatov, was extended for one more month. His lawyer Sergey Slesarev informed 24.kg news agency.

According to the decision of the court, the former mayor will stay in the pretrial detention center of the State Committee for National Security until October 28.

«The law does not work for Kubanychbek Kulmatov. Justice, all-roundness and objectivity are also not for him. There is only one thing for Kubanychbek Kulmatov — detention. We will appeal this decision to a higher court,» said Sergey Slesarev.

Recall, the ex-mayor of Bishkek is charged with corruption. According to the investigation, in 2014 he, being the mayor of the capital, illegally used $ 2 million in grant funds provided by TBEA in the framework of modernization of Bishkek HPP for construction of two schools. Kubanychbek Kulmatov allegedly redirected funds from the government to the Bishkek City Administration under the pretext of building a school in Kalys-Ordo residential area. The former mayor was arrested on June 5 and put in detention center of SCNS.

Another criminal case was opened against Kubanychbek Kulmatov on June 14 — for forgery, manufacture, sale or use of forged documents, state awards, stamps, seals, forms and illegal crossing of the state border of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. SCNS stated that the ex-mayor of Bishkek became a citizen of Kyrgyzstan illegally.
