Investments from Canada into Kyrgyzstan decrease 25.9 times in 2017

The volume of foreign direct investment from Canada into Kyrgyzstan decreased 25.9 times in 2017 due to a decrease in investment in manufacturing. Publication of the National Statistical Committee says.

In 2017, the inflow of foreign direct investment amounted to $ 616.8 million. At the same time, the main investor countries over the past five years were China, Canada, the United Kingdom (Great Britain), Turkey, Russia and Kazakhstan. In 2017, they accounted for 80.9 percent of all received foreign direct investment.

The volume of revenues from countries outside the CIS decreased by 6.3 percent compared to 2016.

«This is due to the decrease in revenues from Canada — 25.9 times, Turkey — 3.7 times, Cyprus — 1.4 times. The main investing country was China with 49.1 percent of the total investment received. Investments from China were directed mainly to manufacturing enterprises, as well as geological exploration and mining,» the report says.

The volume of incoming foreign direct investment from the CIS countries in 2017 decreased 2.1 times. At the same time, if from Kazakhstan they doubled due to investments in the sphere of mining and financial intermediation, from Russia they dropped three times.

Over the past five years, the bulk of foreign direct investment has been directed to the enterprises in the city of Bishkek, Issyk-Kul, Chui and Jalal-Abad regions.
