The President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbai Jeenbekov addressed the people of Kyrgyzstan on the occasion of the State Language Day.
«The Kyrgyz language is a symbol of our statehood, the basis of friendship, the unity of the people, our common spiritual wealth. As Chingiz Aitmatov said, the native language is a self-portrait of the people. For any people, the issue of preserving native language is a matter of preserving identity, uniqueness and traditions.
The basis of the state language policy in Kyrgyzstan is the duality of its goals and objectives. First, we must ensure unconditional and equal respect for all ethnic groups living in the country, their languages, traditions. At the same time, it is important for the Kyrgyz language to be recognized by all citizens of the country — regardless of their nationality, place of birth and residence — as the main factor of the unity of the Kyrgyz Republic,» the address says.
Sooronbai Jeenbekov noted that citizens of foreign countries and volunteers temporarily living and working in Kyrgyzstan were interested in learning the state language, many of them were able to communicate in the Kyrgyz language.
Our goal is the implementation of a consistent and purposeful language policy for the sake of strengthening statehood. Harmonious language policy, which ensures full functioning of the state language, is the most important factor in strengthening national unity while preserving the languages of all ethnic groups living in the country.
