The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed a decree on the termination of the friendship treaty with Russia. TASS reported.
«According to the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine dated September 6, 2018, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry’s offer concerning the termination of the Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation, and Partnership between Ukraine and the Russian Federation, signed on May 31, 1997, has been approved,» decree of the president states.
On August 28, Petro Poroshenko stated that his country was ready to terminate the Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership with Russia, since the document «has long been an anachronism.» The Kremlin considered the actions of Kiev as «unreasonable.»
