Aziz Surakmatov noted that workers of the municipal enterprise Bishkekasfaltservice would build a pedestrian road on two parallel sides of the Southern highway from Sadyrbaev Street (former Bach) to Baitik Baatyr (former Soviet) Street.

The total length of the pedestrian zone is 7.2 kilometers. A bicycle lane with a length of one and a half kilometers will also appear there.

Workers will install lighting, benches and litter bins throughout the pedestrian zone. Two pedestrian bridges will be built above Ala-Archa water canal.

The mayor noted that the issue of opening a pedestrian street in the center of the capital remains open. The specialists of the city administration continue consultations with civil activists, architects, public service workers. Aziz Surakmatov denied that officials of the city administration chose Orozbekov Street for the pedestrian zone in the center of Bishkek.

«We consulted, Orozbekov Street is not suitable for creation of a pedestrian zone,» the mayor said.
