Bishkek City Court considered the complaint of lawyers about extension of measure of restraint to the ex-mayor of the capital Kubanychbek Kulmatov.
The hearing was closed. Relatives and media representatives were not allowed into the courtroom. The court motivated this by defending the departmental interests of the State Committee for National Security.
During the trial, Kubanychbek Kulmatov’s lawyer Sergei Slesarev noted that the investigators illegally and unreasonably asked to extend the sanction, and the first instance court upheld their request.
Judge Janyl Mambetaly left the decision of the Pervomaisky District Court in force.
Kubanychbek Kulmatov was arrested on June 5 on corruption charges. According to investigators, in 2014, being the mayor of Bishkek, he illegally used $ 2 million grant funds provided for the construction of two schools. On June 14, another criminal case was opened against the former mayor on the Articles: Forgery, manufacture, sale or use of forged documents, state awards, stamps, seals, forms and Illegal crossing of the state border of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.
