UNESCO granted patronage to the 3rd World Nomad Games and included kok-boru game in the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. The Information Policy Department of the Presidential Administration of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.
It is noted that today Sooronbai Jeenbekov received the Secretary-General of the Kyrgyz National Commission for UNESCO Sabira Soltongeldieva. She told the head of state about the work done and plans of the National Commission for UNESCO on the promotion of national values.
As she reported, UNESCO provided patronage to the 3rd World Nomad Games. In addition, the traditional equestrian game kok-boru was included in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The UNESCO decision on kok-boru, which was adopted in December 2017, was the result of the four-year-long work of the National Commission for UNESCO in conjunction with the Ministry of Culture, Information and Tourism of the Kyrgyz Republic, the country’s experts.
The President noted that the provision of UNESCO’s patronage to the 3rd World Nomad Games and inclusion of kok-boru game into UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage was a great achievement, pride and victory for all the Kyrgyz people.
«The patronage of UNESCO will contribute to raising the status of the World Nomad Games in the international arena. We raised the level of the national Kyrgyz game kok-boru, made it famous and recognizable all over the world exactly at the World Nomad Games. Kok-boru is a game of the ancient Kyrgyz nomadic people, who preserved it, handing it over through the ages from generation to generation. I also played this game once, it is very dynamic and exciting,» stressed Sooronbai Jeenbekov.
