Sapar Isakov remanded in custody until August 5

The Judicial Board for Criminal Cases and Administrative Offenses of the Supreme Court of Kyrgyzstan considered the complaint of the lawyer Nurbek Toktakunov about the measure of restraint to former Prime Minister Sapar Isakov.

The lawyer asked to change the measure of restraint to Sapar Isakov for a written undertaking not to leave the place. According to Nurbek Toktakunov, there were no grounds for changing the measure of restraint.

However, the panel of judges of the Supreme Court made a decision according to which the former prime minister would be kept in the pre-trial detention facility of the State Committee for National Security until August 5, 2018.

At least four criminal cases were initiated on the breakdown and modernization of the Bishkek Heating and Power Plant and seven former top managers of the energy sector were arrested, including the former head of the Energy Holding Aibek Kaliev, former general director of Electric Stations OJSC Salaidin Avazov.

In addition, another former prime minister, Zhantoro Satybaldiev, ex-mayor of Bishkek Kubanychbek Kulmatov, as well as parliament deputy Osmonbek Artykbayev are in custody. All of them were charged with corruption.
