Bishkek City Council deputies support vote of no confidence in Albek Ibraimov

Deputies of the Bishkek City Council today passed a no confidence motion against the Mayor of Bishkek Albek Ibraimov at an extraordinary session. At least 40 deputies voted for it.

According to the regulations of the Bishkek City Council, the decision to express a vote of no confidence in the mayor is taken by 2/3 of the total number of deputies of the city council through secret voting. The leaders of all five factions of the council made the proposal the day before.

At least 39 deputies out of 45 attended the extraordinary session.

Formal reason for the resignation of Albek Ibraimov was the arrest of the First Vice Mayor of Bishkek Renat Makenov. The State Committee for National Security detained him on July 7 as part of the investigation of the criminal case on the illegal allocation of land. The Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek chose a preventive measure in form of detention for Renat Makenov until the end of the investigation.
