Russia toughens rules of stay for migrants

The rules of stay for migrants in Russia have been toughened. The Federal Migration Service of Russia reported.

According to the migration service, from now on, foreigners coming to Russia in search of earnings will be able to register exclusively at the place of residence. Previously, employers had the right to register the migrants at the legal address of an enterprise.

The new rules will apply also to the citizens of Kyrgyzstan. If migrants live in wagons at a construction site, they need to register there. In Moscow and the Moscow Oblast, apartment owners will not temporarily register the foreigners. Human rights activist Valentina Chupik believes that the Russian authorities removed the responsibility from employers and put migrants in a difficult situation.

«From now on, it will be impossible to register at the address of a legal entity, unless this legal entity itself provides housing in which migrants will live. But the enterprises do not have a housing space,» noted Valentina Chupik.

A punishment from administrative measures to deportation is provided for violation of migration legislation in the Russian Federation.

About 650,000 Kyrgyz citizens work in Russia. About 70,000 Kyrgyz citizens are in the blacklist. They are temporarily prohibited from entering Russia.

Representative office of the State Migration Service of Kyrgyzstan in Moscow sent letters to the relevant authorities of Russia with a request to clarify the new rules of migration registration. After receiving the answer, an awareness-raising campaign among the Kyrgyz citizens in the Russian Federation will begin.
