Head of state tells about prospects of tourism, energy sector, mining industry

The President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbai Jeenbekov instructed the government to continue energy projects. He stated this today at the session of the Parliament.

The head of state noted that Kyrgyzstan used only 10 percent of its water-energy potential. And in the future, the need for energy will also grow along with the economic growth.

The President called to pay special attention to the modernization of the Toktogul hydropower station, Kambar-Ata-1 and Kambar-Ata-2, the cascade of the Upper Naryn HPPs, Kara-Keche thermal power plant, participation in the international project CASA-1000, small and alternative energy projects.

According to the president, it is also necessary to create conditions for the construction of technopolises for textile and clothing activities for the development of the light industry.

«At the moment, the development of tourism is of great importance. There are all opportunities for the tourism industry to have a non-seasonal character, to become a profitable industry that can function all year round,» he said.

According to the president, it is necessary to fully use the advantages in the mining sector. The activities of this branch should be aimed at the development of small towns and villages, as well as at the increase in the number of jobs in the regions. But at the same time, environmental protection should become the main requirement.

«We are all well aware that many cases in this sphere are politicized and, as a consequence, have a negative impact on the investment climate in the country. Therefore, relevant bodies together with investors should actively conduct explanatory work among the local residents. The development of deposits should be maximally aimed at improving the living standards of the local population and the infrastructure of the regions,» said Sooronbai Jeenbekov.
