The Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek considered the extension of the term of the arrest for the ex-mayor of the capital Kubanychbek Kulmatov.
The lawyer of the accused, Sergei Slesarev, said that the petition of the investigation to extend the arrest of Kubanychbek Kulmatov was unfounded. The prosecutor objected to the lawyer. The Judge Mirlan Termechikov granted the investigator’s request.
Kubanychbek Kulmatov will stay in SCNS detention center until August 28.
The ex-mayor of the capital is charged with corruption. According to the investigation, in 2014 he, being the mayor of Bishkek, illegally used $ 2 million grant provided by TBEA in the framework of modernization of the Bishkek HPP for the construction of two schools. Kubanychbek Kulmatov allegedly redirected funds from the government to the Bishkek City Administration under the pretext of building a school in Kalys-Ordo residential area. The former mayor was arrested on June 5 and put in SCNS detention center.
Another criminal case was opened on June 14 against Kubanychbek Kulmatov under the Articles «Forgery, manufacture, sale or use of forged documents, state awards, stamps, seals, forms» and «Illegal crossing of the state border» of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.
