Candles will be lit on Victory Square in Bishkek in memory of the soldiers, who were killed in the Great Patriotic War. The coordinator of Veterans 365 NGO Zinaida Alikulova told 24.kg news agency.
Volunteers plan to make the phrase «We remember» using 1,418 candles: so many days the Great Patriotic War continued.
«This is a traditional international campaign, which is held annually in many countries. Our organization holds it for the third time,» she told.
«We want to pay tribute to the memory of all those, who died during the Great Patriotic War. It began on June 22, 1941. This tragic date will remain forever in our memory. More than 27 million Soviet citizens were killed during the war,» she noted.
Candle of Memory campaign will take place on June 21. Volunteers of the NGO will start installing the candles at 7.00 pm, and at 9.00 pm, when it gets dark, everyone will be able to light their «candle of memory.» Military songs will be performed during the campaign.
