Defense Minister of Russia calls on CIS countries to join Syria's restoration

The Defense Minister of Russia, Sergey Shoygu, urged the CIS countries to join the restoration of Syria. He stated this at a meeting of the Council of Defense Ministers of the Commonwealth, which is held in Kyzyl, TASS reported.

According to Sergey Shoygu, all the conditions for the revival of the country as a single indivisible state have been created in Syria: most of the country was liberated from the militants, there are negotiations with the remaining terrorists on laying down the arms, plans for the formation of a pseudo-caliphate were broken. However, to restore the country, according to the minister, the assistance of the Commonwealth countries is needed.

«Obviously, it is possible to ensure security only through joint efforts. In this regard, I address to you, dear colleagues, with a proposal to take part in the establishment of a peaceful life in Syria,» said Sergey Shoygu.

The Defense Minister voiced areas of possible cooperation: demining, joint patrolling, humanitarian assistance, restoration of infrastructure.

Delegations of the military departments of Azerbaijan, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan take part in the meeting of the Council of Ministers of Defense of the CIS countries in Tyva. Kyrgyzstan is represented by the Chief of General Staff, Raimberdi Duishenbiev.
