Half of Kyrgyzstan's population has no access to family doctors

A half of the population of Kyrgyzstan does not have physical access to family doctors. The Consultant of the press center of the Ministry of Health Elena Bayalinova told with reference to the Director of the Association of Family Doctors and Family Nurses Groups Suyumzhan Mukeeva.

Urgent solutions are needed. If we do not resolve this in the next year or two, there will be a catastrophe in the healthcare system.

«The family doctors have a low salary, so the situation does not change for the better: young specialists do not come, and the older doctors do not have enough strength, especially since they work for a several people,» she said.

According to Suyumzhan Mukeeva, about 1,500 family doctors, 80 percent of whom are already pensioners, serve 6 million citizens of Kyrgyzstan today. The most bare are the areas, bordering with Kazakhstan: Panfilov district of Chui region, Tyup district of Issyk-Kul region and others.

In 2018, Kyrgyzstan marks the 20th anniversary of the creation of family medicine and the Association of Family Doctors and Family Nurses Groups.
