Prime Minister points to causes of Bishkek HPP breakdown

The Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Mukhammedkaly Abylgaziev noted that it was the first official meeting of the new government, and pointed to the causes of the breakdown at the Bishkek Heating and Power Plant.

«The breakdown at Bishkek HPP was the result of corruption in the energy sector,» the Prime Minister said.

«One third of the external loans are spent on the energy sector. Totally, there have been raised 99.7 billion soms. But the accident in winter showed that the funds were used for other purposes,» the head of the Cabinet said.

He noted that four breakdowns have occurred in the energy sector in recent years.

«There were two accidents at Toktogul HPP, and there was another breakdown at Bishkek HPP before. But then we managed to fix everything in time,» the Prime Minister said.

Mukhammedkaly Abylgaziev urged members of the government to stay away from corruption. «Parliament has given us great credence. We must be closer to the people and carry out real reforms. I urge all the officials to stay away from corruption,» warned Mukhammedkaly Abylgaziev.
