Prime Minister Sapar Isakov urges to think about nature of Kyrgyzstan

The Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Sapar Isakov called to think about the nature of the country at the eco-forum «Too Tokoi» (Mountain Forest.)

According to him, Kyrgyzstan remains one of the islands of relatively pure nature. The agrarian economy and the absence of heavy industry allowed to preserve natural resources.

«We must think today about setting the highest requirements for the construction of plants and factories concerning emissions into the atmosphere. When you put ecology and the enterprise that will give jobs, contribute to the economy, on the scales, you need to measure the damage. We need jobs, but we need to preserve the ecology also,» he said.

Today, air pollution in large cities, shrinking biodiversity and glacier areas are observed. But this is a worldwide process. «The forest and green plantations contribute to the conservation of nature, to the improvement of air, to the preservation of glaciers and to the economic development of the country. Forests of Kyrgyzstan perform mainly water and climate regulation, soil protection functions,» the prime minister said.

Sapar Isakov reminded that the area of forests in the republic is only 5 percent and 90 percent of them are located at an altitude of over 700 meters above the sea level.

«There are many mountains in Kyrgyzstan, but we do not plant trees there. There is a tendency to aging of forests, especially spruce ones. Forestry enterprises annually plant forest cultures, provide local authorities with seedlings. Seedlings are also planted now within the framework of Taza Zhashoo program,» he said.

«Planting of trees on the slopes of mountains can prevent emergencies and save lives, improve the climate in the country. Our main task in the era of globalization is to think about the future of our country, the preservation of its nature. We are waiting for your ideas to implement this,» Sapar Isakov said.
