Curfew imposed on Karakol town due to military exercises

«A curfew has been imposed on Karakol town today till April 12 from 9.00 pm to 6.00 am. It was announced that these are military exercises and streets of the town will be checked after 9.00 pm. If a police detachment catches offenders, they will be taken to the police department for identification. Do not let children go outside after 8.00 pm during these three days,» a reader told 24.kg news agency.

The information about the curfew was confirmed by Karakol Main Internal Affairs Department, noting that it was introduced in connection with the ongoing joint command staff training and mobilization exercises Koopsuzuk-2018 (Security-2018).

«Today at 6.00 am the curfew was lifted. Large-scale exercises are held in the town. They will last three days,» the Internal Affairs Department noted.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Kyrgyz Republic reported that Koopsuzuk exercises are held annually. The bodies of management of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, territorial bodies of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the State National Security Committee, the authorized representative of the government of the Kyrgyz Republic in Issyk-Kul region, the district state administrations of the region and Karakol town administration take part in them.

The exercises are conducted to check the readiness of city authorities, local administrations, law enforcement and security agencies and the population for introduction of an emergency situation regime.

In the course of the exercises, tasks to stabilize the situation in case of crisis situations is being practiced. Military shooting with reserve companies of Karakol and Tyup district was conducted.

The General Staff noted that security and defense of strategic facilities were organized, checkpoints by reserve forces, filtration points and reception points for refugees by units of the Ministry of Emergency Situations were deployed.

The joint command staff and mobilization exercises Koopsuzuk-2018 will end on April 12.
