Blind poet Temirlan Ormukov, placed in detention center, goes on hunger strike

Blind poet Temirlan Ormukov was placed in the pretrial detention center. An activist Adil Turdukulov told 24.kg news agency.

According to him, today the police came to him in hospital and handcuffed him for medical examination. Later, Temirlan Ormukov was brought to the pretrial detention center.

«Neither he nor we received any documents on detention. Within 48 hours, a preventive measure will be chosen for Ormukov. The poet went on a hunger strike. The fact that he, being blind, will be put in a mass cell is absolute chaos,» said Adil Turdukulov.

At the beginning of February 2017, a criminal case on libel was opened against Temirlan Ormukov, known for his critical statements about politicians, including the former President Almazbek Atambayev.

MP Dastan Bekeshev applied to the police. Temirlan Ormukov accused him of receiving a large sum from entrepreneurs, selling right-hand drive cars, for support of their interests in the Parliament.

A check was carried out on corruption statement. The facts voiced by Temirlan Ormukov were not confirmed.

Last week, Temirlan Ormukov cut his belly open when he was called to Bishkek’s police department.
