The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree «On celebration of the 90th anniversary of the birth of the great writer and public figure Chingiz Aitmatov.» Interfax reported.
According to the decree, one of the central streets of Tashkent will named after the writer.
The great writer Chingiz Aitmatov is an outstanding personality, the pride of not only the Kyrgyz, but also of all Turkic peoples, including the people of Uzbekistan.

Within the celebration of the anniversary, documentary and feature films about the writer will be produced, a play will be staged and a book of memoirs «Chingiz Aitmatov and Uzbekistan» will be published.
The country will host meetings and literary evenings dedicated to the life and work of the writer.
People’s writer of Kyrgyzstan, Hero of Socialist Labor, laureate of Lenin and State Prizes of the USSR, Hero of the Kyrgyz Republic Chingiz Aitmatov was born in 1928 in Sheker village, Talas region. He lived and worked in his homeland, in Russia and the Benelux countries, becoming the first Ambassador of an independent Kyrgyzstan.
He is the author of numerous short stories and a number of novels. Many of his works were filmed. The writer’s books were published in 150 languages.
Chingiz Aitmatov died in the summer of 2008 in a clinic in Germany at the age of 80. He was buried in the memorial complex Ata-Beyit near Bishkek.
