Almazbek Atambayev will prepare SDPK party for the parliamentary elections in 2020. He announced this today at a press conference after the party’s congress, where he was elected a chairman.
Answering the question about political plans, Almazbek Atambayev assured that he did not seek power.
«My task is not power, not the place of prime minister. Sapar Isakov is young, full of energy. He, of course, makes mistakes. I will prepare the party for the elections in 2020. We need two or three more parties like SDPK with their own ideology. In this situation, SDPK must take responsibility for the country to develop democratically,» he said.
Almazbek Atambayev noted that if he wanted power, he would amend the Constitution through a referendum.
«People wrote me a lot, asked me to stay for one more term. The president’s second term could be allowed through a referendum. But I did not do that. I am for the change of power, and we must preserve it,» Almazbek Atambayev said.
Recall, the 17th congress of SDPK party was held today in Bishkek. The previous 17th Congress of SDPK was held on July 15, 2017. It took place in the National Philharmonic Hall named after Toktogul Satylganov. 680 delegates from all regions of the country and the political council participated in its work.
