Ex-parliamentary speaker Chynybai Tursunbekov interrogated by SCNS

The former speaker of the Parliament Chynybai Tursunbekov was summoned for interrogation to the State Committee for National Security. He informed 24.kg news agency.

According to him, the investigator talked with him in the framework of the criminal case against Arsen Zakirov, head of the Department for Foreign Affairs, Defense and Security of the Parliament.

He was detained by SCNS in early February on suspicion of misappropriation and embezzlement of $30,000 (the Chinghiz Aitmatov Award).

«At the time when this money disappeared, I was a speaker and, naturally, signed some documents. So I explained it to the investigator. But as far as I know, everything is against Arsen Zakirov. It was he, most likely, alone who organized the crime and took the money. He also pointed to my assistant Nurlan Abdygul uulu as an accomplice. The investigation clarifies the details,» Chynybai Tursunbekov said.

He confirmed that there was a face-to-face interrogation between him and the First Deputy Prime Minister Askarbek Shadiev. The latter had been interrogated twice already.

According to investigators, in the autumn of 2017, Arsen Zakirov forged documents on the transfer of $30,000 to the account of the secretariat of the Council of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, intended for the payment of the Chinghiz Aitmatov Award. However, in response to the request of the Parliament administration, the IPA CIS secretariat denied receipt of funds.

Askarbek Shadiev headed the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Parliament. He said that he regretted about the happened. However, he considers the issue of personal responsibility to be superfluous. «Every day a lot of papers are received for signing,» said Askarbek Shadiev.

The award was established by the resolution of the IPA CIS in November 2012 at the suggestion of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan.
