The Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan met with Emma McLennan, director of Eastern Alliance for Safe and Sustainable Transport (EASST, Great Britain) and discussed opportunities for joint efforts to improve road safety in the country.

According to the press service of the government, Sapar Isakov noted with regret that the government was forced to withdraw from the agreement with investors on Smart City project, and plans to further implement it by its own forces.

According to Robin Ord-Smith, the Ambassador of Great Britain to Kyrgyzstan, EASST is an independent organization that is represented and successfully operates in 14 countries. It specializes in general road safety and pedestrian safety.

Emma McLennan reported that she had previously met with the leadership of the Main Directorate for Traffic Safety of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic and the parties discussed the current situation and the development of recommendations.

Emma McLennan noted that the government of Kyrgyzstan has enough political will to correct the existing situation, which is an important factor for the successful implementation of projects.

In her opinion, first of all, it is necessary at the initial stage to determine the most dangerous intersections in Bishkek city. Upon completion of the analysis, EASST will give the necessary recommendations for the implementation of Smart City project.

The Director of EASST also told about the international experience of the organization in improving road safety in different countries of the world.
