Residents of Bishkek housing estate Uchkun-2 threaten to set themselves on fire

Residents of the Bishkek new housing estate Uchkun-2 hold a rally at the White House. The protesters said that the court’s decision on demolishing of their houses is illegal.

The protesters wrote an appeal to the President Sooronbai Jeenbekov, which states that in 2003 they purchased plots in Novopavlovsky rural administration. After 12 years, the Sokuluk district prosecutor’s office sued the State Registration Service of Sokuluk District and Novopavlovsky rural administration, demanding to recognize receipt of 85 out of 700 land plots illegal. In addition, law enforcement agencies opened a criminal case on the fact.

«The legal proceedings have lasted three years. By court order, our houses are subject to demolition. We did not seize the land. We bought lots, built houses on them. We have all the permits. Some invested $ 15,000 in the houses. Why should we leave the legally purchased land?» protesters say.

Participants of the protest see the interest of officials in their case.

«Last year, the governor of the Chui region promised us to sort out the issue. During the election campaign, the criminal case was terminated, and after the elections our houses are to be demolished,» the protesters said.

Participants of the protest at the White House said they were ready to take extreme measures, including self-immolation, if their issue is not resolved in the near future.
