State Border Service explains kilometer-long queues on border with Uzbekistan

The State Border Service of the Kyrgyz Republic explained why the border guards do not cope with the influx of people at Dostuk-Avtodorozhniy checkpoint in Osh region.

According to the agency, the increase in passenger traffic is associated with increase in trade, including cross-border trade. The queues are recorded both from the Kyrgyz and from the Uzbek side.

«The accumulation of people and vehicles is cyclical: it is mainly observed in the morning and afternoon hours, as well as in the days of the organization of bazaars. Additional border control booths were installed at Dostuk-Avtodorozhniy checkpoint. The throughput capacity of the checkpoint increased. More than 7,000 people pass through the border for a day,» the State Border Service of Kyrgyzstan said.

In the near future, four more booths will be installed: two on the road and two- at the entrance to the country.
