President: Regional projects are priority in work with international donors

The President of Kyrgyzstan the day before received the European Union Special Representative for Central Asia Peter Burian.

Sooronbai Jeenbekov noted the active interaction of Kyrgyzstan with the institutions of the European Union and stressed the importance of accelerating bilateral negotiations on a new Agreement on enhanced partnership and cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the EU.

He expressed gratitude for supporting the efforts of Kyrgyzstan in improving the electoral system, social programs, including the project to provide the population in remote regions with clean drinking water (Taza Suu).

Peter Burian considers the emphasis on regional development issue as a priority. He noted the willingness to cooperate in the implementation of projects aimed at supporting the regions.

The President of Kyrgyzstan highly appreciated the preferences granted by the European Union and recalled that Kyrgyzstan is the only country in Central Asia that received GSP + status.

«In work with international donors, we intend to give priority to issues of support for regional development projects, including increasing the capacity to supply Kyrgyzstan’s products to the European market, and above all to provide comprehensive assistance to small and medium-sized businesses,» the head of state said.
