Journalist Elnura Alkanova charged with disclosure of banking secrecy

Today, a journalist Elnura Alkanova was charged under the Articles «Illegal receiving of information constituting a commercial or banking secrecy» and «Disclosure of commercial, banking or other secrets, as well as secrets of taxpayer’s information» of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. She was charged by the investigator of the State Service for Combating Economic Crimes.

According to Media Policy Institute, journalist’s lawyer Jyrgal Babayev made a petition to stop the proceedings in the case against Elnura Alkanova, since she can not be a subject in the elements of the crimes, therefore, there is no crime.

The investigator has not yet ruled on this petition.

In early January, the journalist was summoned for questioning to the Investigative Department of the State Service for Combating Economic Crimes. The reason for the conversation was an article-investigation. Elnura Alkanova tried to find out who got the cottages of Maxim Bakiyev and who is behind the scandalous deal, which, according to the deputies of the Parliament, caused damage to the state at $ 10 million.

Ideal House LLC was sold for 142 million soms. Applications were received from Business Pro LLC and VostokTechKomplekt. The starting price was 130 million soms. The second participant purchased the object for 142 million soms.

Recall, sale of Ideal House LLC failed several times because of the inactivity of the participants.

Ideal House LLC — Maxim Bakiyev’s project. He, using his position, registered the company as owner of several hectares of land near State Residence Ala-Archa-1. Elite cottages were built on the plots. After April 7, 2010, the cottages were nationalized.

After the publication, the management of BTA Bank demanded to open a criminal case against Elnura Alkanova. Earlier, the court forbade her to leave the country.
