Kazakhstan not to remain without water due to repairs at Kirov reservoir

Kazakhstan will not remain without water because of repairs at Kirov water reservoir. Authorized Government Representative in Talas region, Marat Murataliev, told today at a press conference.

According to him, repairs at Kirov reservoir were completed. «550 million cubic meters of water are being accumulated, 88 percent of which is provided for irrigation of lands to Kazakhstan, 12 percent remain for Manas district of Talas region. It is enough for us. At the same time, the canal is under reconstruction, which will increase the area of ​​our irrigated land,» Marat Murataliev said.

He added that the reservoir had to be completely drained for repair.

At present, 206 million cubic meters of water have been accumulated. Weather conditions allow completely filling the reservoir till the growing season.

Recall, discharge of water from Kirov reservoir in Talas region of Kyrgyzstan began on October 19. The message of the Ministry of Agriculture about carrying out repair-restoration works at the site coincided with the tightening of border control on the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border.
