Two convicted members of "People's Parliament" go on dry hunger strike

Two convicted members of «People’s Parliament» — expert in energy issues Ernest Karybekov and ex-governor of Jalal-Abad region Bektur Asanov — went on a dry hunger strike. The Committee for the Protection of Political Prisoners informed 24.kg news agency.

As associates of the convicts note, Ernest Karybekov holds a protest against the arbitrariness of the State Committee for National Security and the courts. He fell ill the day before and was transferred to a hospital in penal colony No.47.

Bektur Asanov went on a dry hunger strike in protest against the head of the State National Security Committee, Abdil Segizbayev, and demands his resignation. Due to the deterioration of his health on January 30, he was also transferred to the hospital in the penal colony No. 47.

Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek on April 17, 2017 announced the verdict to the members of El Unu. Dastan Sarygulov was sentenced to four years (three of them were suspended) and released in the courtroom. Ernest Karybekov was sentenced to 20 years with confiscation of property and serving a sentence in a penal colony with reinforced regime. Bektur Asanov was sentenced to 12 years in a penal colony. Kubanychbek Kadyrov got 12 years to be served in penal colony with strengthened security regime.

Each of them, except for Dastan Sarygulov, appeal against the verdict to a higher court.
