Cold snap in Kyrgyzstan. Classes in schools not canceled

The Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic distributed an urgent telephone message with the instruction to strengthen control over the health of children in connection with the cold snap. Press service of the ministry reported.

All heads of city and district departments of education, as well as departments of education in Bishkek and Osh cities, were reportedly instructed to daily measure the temperature regime in the country’s educational institutions and to inform local authorities, the ministry, regional branches of the Department for Disease Prevention and the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Control.

«Upon receipt of appropriate instructions from the State Sanitary Epidemiological Supervision Department, the ministry will decide on temporary suspension of the educational process,» the ministry noted.

Recall, classes were canceled in Naryn, Chui and Jalal-Abad regions last year in mid-January due to severe cold weather. This year, the Ministry of Emergency Situations spread a storm warning from January 26 and warned that air temperature is expected to drop to −40C degrees.
