PM prohibits issuance of licenses for use of mineral resources in riverbeds

Prime Minister Sapar Isakov instructed state bodies to prohibit the issuance of licenses and take measures to revoke previously issued licenses for subsurface sites in riverbeds or on river banks, as well as other water bodies. This was reported by the Department for Public Relations and Mass Media of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic.

According to it, the head of government noted that mining of breakstone in riverbeds should not be carried out if such work is accompanied by risks to the country’s environmental, economic and national safety.

According to the instruction, the Ministry of Emergency Situations together with the State Inspection for Environmental and Technical Safety must detect hazardous areas in the floodplains and riverbeds developed by subsoil users and submit proposals to the State Committee for Industry, Energy and Subsoil Use to take appropriate measures.

This decision was made to prevent harm to the environment, public health, and to avoid human casualties, which could result in the exploitation of subsoil areas in riverbeds or on the banks of rivers and other reservoirs, the press service noted.
