Sooronbai Jeenbekov: Thanks to EEU, Kyrgyzstan becomes leader in economic growth

Thanks to joining the EEU, Kyrgyzstan has become a leader in economic growth. The President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbai Jeenbekov told in an interview with «Izvestia».

According to him, as early as in 2016, as Prime Minister, he raised the issue of simplification of the decision-making procedures in the EEU. «The Union has a big international agenda, the EEC is empowered by the presidents of the countries of the Eurasian integration to negotiate a free trade zone with countries such as India, Iran, Serbia and Singapore. Negotiations with China to expand trade and economic cooperation are underway. Sometimes it is difficult to coordinate the work of agencies in one country, and EEC has to work with the organs of five states, with which it successfully manages,» Sooronbai Jeenbekov said.

Since the entry of Kyrgyzstan into the EEU, there has been a positive dynamic in the economy. Kyrgyzstan is the leader in economic growth among the countries of the union. In 2016, GDP increased by 3.8 percent.

He added that since 2015, the share of exports in total trade turnover has increased, including with the countries of the union.

«After joining the union, investments in the republic from the EEU countries significantly increased from 12 to 40 percent. The volume of money transfers has grown. Membership in the union created favorable conditions for the stay and activity of labor migrants in the EEU countries. In particular, the employment procedures have been simplified, social conditions for them and their families have been improved,» the Kyrgyz president added.
