Border treaty between Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan signed

The presidents of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan have ended negotiations in a narrow format the day before. Kazakh media reported.

The day before, Sooronbai Jeenbekov arrived in Astana on an official visit at the invitation of Nursultan Nazarbayev.

Following the meeting, the Kyrgyz leader said that Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan should strive for the border between the two countries to become merely a formality. Sooronbai Jeenbekov called the agreement on the demarcation of the Kazakh-Kyrgyz state border signed in Akorda and the agreement on the regime of the state border of the two countries historical. «Thus, we have completed the legal registration of the state border between our two countries. I am convinced that this will contribute to the fact that our borders will be the gateway of trust, good-neighborliness and mutually beneficial cooperation,» the Kyrgyz president said.

At the same time, we must strive for the border between us to be only a formality, and our peoples can cross it without hindrance, as it was before. After all, we are truly fraternal peoples.

The President said that he invited Nursultan Nazarbayev to pay an official visit to Kyrgyzstan. According to him, within its framework it is planned to hold a regular meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. «I invited Nursultan Abishevich to take part in the opening ceremony of the 3rd World Nomad Games, which will be held in September 2018 on the shores of the pearl of Central Asia — Issyk-Kul Lake. I also invite Kazakh athletes to take part in the Games,» Jeenbekov said.

At a meeting in a narrow format, Nursultan Nazarbayev assured that he had never said a bad word to Kyrgyzstan, and urged the peoples of the two countries to hand over friendly relations from generation to generation. During the talks in expanded format, the head of state noted that there are no problems between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan that can not be solved.

Earlier it was reported that talks in a narrow format and meeting in an expanded format were planned. The sides will sign a document on the regime of the Kazakh-Kyrgyz state border and an agreement on the demarcation of the border.

Recall, the first meeting of Nursultan Nazarbayev with the new head of the Kyrgyz Republic was held in Minsk on the sidelines of the CSTO summit in late November. The presidents discussed the prospects of bilateral relations, including the issues of settling the situation on the border.
