Supreme Court upholds verdict to Omurbek Tekebayev

Consideration of the supervisory appeal against the verdict of the Bishkek City Court in the case of ex-MP Omurbek Tekebayev and former head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations Duishenkul Chotonov was completed. The Board of the Supreme Court announced the decision the day before.

Omurbek Tekebayev and Duishenkul Chotonov were found guilty under the Article Corruption and sentenced to eight years behind bars with confiscation of property. Thus, the Supreme Court of the Kyrgyz Republic upheld the verdicts of the courts of the first two instances — Pervomaisky District and Bishkek City Courts.

However, the court applied amnesty to Tekebayev. The term of imprisonment will be reduced. Earlier it was reported that the politician will spend in the colony 4.5 years.

The lawyers of the convicts do not exclude that they will appeal to the UN Committee for the Protection of Human Rights, because the case against their clients was framed up and has political overtone.
