50,000 migrant workers leave Kyrgyzstan annually

50,000 people annually leave as labor migrants. Member of the working group on the development of the Single Report on Migration in  for 2016-2017 Alexander Koak said at the 26th meeting of the Large Public Council in Bishkek.

According to him, in some years, up to 170,000 Kyrgyz citizens left the country for this purpose.

At present, 710,000 of our citizens are in external labor migration, 616,000 of whom are in Russia, in Kazakhstan — 30,000, in South Korea — 14,000, in Turkey — 30,000 and 20,000 people work in other countries.

He noted that the amount of remittances from migrants increases every year.

«In 2015, they transferred $ 1,683,600, in 2016 — by $ 300 million more, and for 8 months of 2017 the transfers amounted to $ 1.5 billion,» the expert said.

Large Public Council was formed in 2012 within the framework of the project «Promoting the Rights of Families Affected by Migration». Meetings of the council address issues faced by migrant workers and members of their families that have not been resolved at the local government level. The council includes members of the Parliament, representatives of ministries, international organizations, diasporas, trade unions and others.
