Parental co-financing in Bishkek amounts to 200 million soms per year

The amount of parental co-financing of schools in Bishkek is about 200 million soms per year. The Minister of Education and Science Gulmira Kudaiberdieva said at the presentation of the project «Development of mechanisms for financing the security of the school environment in Kyrgyzstan

According to her, 200 million soms can be found and thereby free parents in Bishkek from co-financing, but the ministry can’t find the means for the entire republic. «We are currently studying the situation, and we will soon introduce a number of measures to address issues related to parental co-financing,» the minister said.

As she noted, the problem arises from the fact that «parents do not have full information about spending.» «About 80 percent of the funds coming from the contributions go to teachers for a wage premium, as well as for salaries for cleaning staff, security guards,»" Gulmira Kudaiberdiyeva said.

According to her, the practice of parental co-financing of schools exists also in Russia and Kazakhstan.
