What will Kyrgyzstan lose if Kumtor stops

Member of the Board of Kumtor Gold Company Duishen Kasenov told that what Kyrgyzstan would lose if the Kumtor project stops.

According to him, technical hazards for Kumtor are glaciers. If not to take measures, Davydov glacier will fall into the quarry and block access to the ore body. To prevent this, an internal dump is built.

«If not to unload Davydov glacier, there is a threat to life of the company’s employees. If to stop the work, it will be difficult to launch it, and up to $ 150 million will be needed. The government of Kyrgyzstan will be responsible for all these costs. About 5,000 people will be left without work. The tension in Issyk-Kul region will increase. The budget will lose up to $ 108 million a year,» Duishen Kasenov said.
