Sapar Isakov: It is necessary to raise level of trade between Kyrgyzstan and EU

«It is necessary to raise the level of bilateral trade between Kyrgyzstan and the countries of the European Union,» Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Sapar Isakov said at a meeting with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini. The Information Support Department of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

According to it, Sapar Isakov noted that the parties do not in full use the existing potential, including opportunities within the Kyrgyzstan’s GSP + status.

«To further promote exports to EU countries, it is also necessary to provide comprehensive assistance to small and medium-sized businesses, entrepreneurs on certification, technical regulation, increasing the added value and output,» Sapar Isakov said.

The Prime Minister thanked the EU for its interest in Taza Koom project and noted that the government is counting on the EU’s support in providing practical assistance in its implementation.

The Prime Minister also told about the main directions of the governmental program «Zhany Doorgo — Kyrk Kadam» and the electoral system of the country.

Federica Mogherini stressed that the European Union supports the efforts of the government to implement a set of measures aimed at economic development. In addition, she stressed the importance of building up bilateral cooperation within use of GSP+ status by Kyrgyzstan.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the possibility of training domestic specialists to increase efficiency from the use of this status.

Federica Mogherini noted the EU’s readiness to begin negotiations in the near future on concluding a new agreement on the deepened partnership and cooperation of the EU with Kyrgyzstan.

The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, emphasized that the European Union is always ready to support the positive initiatives of the government of the country and is open to further cooperation.
