88 percent of infectious diseases in Kyrgyzstan caused by poor water quality

88 percent of infectious diseases in Kyrgyzstan are caused by poor quality water. This was stated at public hearings on discussion of drafts of by-laws in the field of strengthening supervision over the safety and quality of drinking water, water supply and sanitation facilities.

The Department of Disease Prevention and the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Supervision of the Ministry of Health proposes to approve the rules of hygienic safety of polymeric materials used in drinking water supply systems, as well as the rules for the arrangement and maintenance of public toilets.

Doctors noted that 80 percent of diseases can be prevented by introducing supervision over the provision of high-quality drinking water and compliance with the safety of water supply facilities. At present, the requirements for water quality are recommendatory in nature.
