Traffic jam at border reaches 11.5 kilometers

The day before, officials of the Ministry of Economy of Kyrgyzstan together with representatives of the Independent Trade Union of Long-Distance Drivers left for Ak-Tilek checkpoint to monitor the situation.

According to the ministry, during the monitoring, there was received information on the drivers, the quantity and value of the cargo, the country of destination and the sender, as well as the costs associated with standing of transport at the border. Over 400 drivers, standing in line along the road leading to the border with Kazakhstan, were questioned. The length of the jam (queue) was 11.5 km to the control barrier. The duration of the journey of one truck from the end of the line to the border crossing point is 5-6 days.

It is noted that the majority of drivers expressed positive feedback to business associations that provide hot meals for them.

Tents of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and a medical center are still installed at the border.

The Ministry of Economy expresses its gratitude to the Independent Trade Union of Long-Distance Drivers of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Association of Small Hydro Power Plants, other business associations, individual owners of cafes, restaurants, and all citizens of the country for their assistance in providing food and supporting entrepreneurs.
