MFA of Kyrgyzstan exchanged courtesies with Kazakh colleagues

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan commented on the statement of Kazakhstan’s foreign policy department regarding the situation on the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border.

«The Kyrgyz public is closely monitoring the situation on the Kyrgyz-Kazakh and Russian-Kazakh borders, where border, migration, customs, phytosanitary, veterinary and other controls have been strengthened since the beginning of October, which directly touched Kyrgyz citizens and vehicles. The introduction of such measures does not correspond to the level of allied relations and strategic partnership between Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, as well as the goals of the establishment of the Eurasian Economic Union,» the press service of the ministry said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic notes that the Kazakh side each time explains the reasons for strengthening control at the borders, which are crossed by Kyrgyz citizens and vehicles, in different way.

«So, on October 11, the National Security Committee of Kazakhstan stated that this was an exclusively planned border operation aimed at preventing illegal activities in the border area, detection of persons involved in terrorist, smuggling and other criminal activities, checking compliance with the border regime and migration legislation. Until October 11, the Kazakh side did not inform or comment on its actions on strengthening all kinds of control over persons and vehicles crossing the state border of Kazakhstan,» the statement stresses.

«On October 14, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Information and Communications Dauren Abayev, commenting on the situation at the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border to the media, linked it to the holding of presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan. On October 15, on the day of the presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan, the Ministry of Information and Communication of the Republic of Kazakhstan reported that strengthening of border control is related to the implementation of EEU legislation with a view to reduce the volume of «gray» imports. Thus, it is the Kazakh side that incorrectly informs the public of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan about measures aimed at strengthening control at the state border of Kazakhstan,» the Kyrgyz Foreign Affairs Ministry said.
