Economic policy with reliance on internal resources is right decision

The political scientist and head of the IZ research group Bakhtiyar Erkimbayev commented on the government’s decision to denounce the agreement with Kazakhstan to provide $ 100 million in the framework of Eurasian integration.

According to Erkimbayev, this is a correct and logical decision, provided that in the future the government will take the principle of building its economic policy based on internal resources, rather than on donor assistance.

We have been implementing economic policy for a quarter of a century on the recommendations of external players and through the implementation of projects of international organizations.

Accordingly, we don’t have our own policy, reflecting primarily the interests of the people of Kyrgyzstan, and not global and regional players.

Thus, if the new government starts to develop and implement its own economic program, then the rejection of $ 100 million will be incorrect only from a tactical point of view, but in the strategic plan will be an unconditional gain.

Recall, on February 9, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan signed a detailed agreement on rendering assistance by the Kazakh side. This is a document, under which Kazakhstan undertakes to help Kyrgyzstan adapt to the conditions of the EEU and provides $ 100 million in the form of a grant.

Yesterday 24.kg news agency reported that Kyrgyzstan intends to unilaterally break the agreement with Kazakhstan signed within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union last year. The corresponding document was sent to the parliament. The initiators are the Ministry of Economy, the State Customs and Border Guard Service.

Earlier, Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev, commenting on the situation on the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border, said that Kyrgyzstan doesn’t need assistance from Kazakhstan.
