Kyrgyz Economy Ministry accuses Kazakhstan of non-compliance with EEU norms

Taking into consideration the situation at the checkpoints at state border of Kazakhstan and the problems experienced by domestic freight carriers and entrepreneurs, the Ministry of Economy of Kyrgyzstan notes that the Kazakh side does not observe the rules of the law of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU). The Ministry announced the day before.

It is noted that the additional control introduced by the Republic of Kazakhstan at all checkpoints contradicts the main principles and objectives of the EEU Treaty and jeopardizes the achievement of the goals of Eurasian economic integration.

«Kazakhstan restricts the freedom of movement of goods, thereby violating one of the fundamental principles of the functioning of the unified market of EEU. The Ministry of Economy of the Kyrgyz Republic sent a letter to the Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission Tigran Sargsyan on the need to notify the Republic of Kazakhstan of compliance with the provisions of EEU Agreement dated May 29, 2014 and consideration of this issue at the next meeting of EEC Board,» the message says.

According to the State Border Service of Kyrgyzstan, the average daily number of individuals and vehicles from Kyrgyzstan at the major and busiest Ak-Zhol-Avtodorozhniy and Ak-Tilek-Avtodorozhniy checkpoints before the introduction of additional measures by Kazakhstan amounted to 8,176 persons and 662 vehicles, 388 of which were heavy vehicles. Since October 10, 2017 at these checkpoints, the average daily number of passed persons and vehicles from Kyrgyzstan is 3,446 persons, vehicles — 357 at least 162 of which are cargo ones.

Since October 10, there is a large accumulation of trucks and long lines of pedestrians at all checkpoints at the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border due to strengthened inspection by Kazakhstan.
