President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev rejected statements about his influence on the elections in Kyrgyzstan. He told journalists about this at a press conference in Sochi.
Nursultan Nazarbayev called a lie the information in the media that he supports the opposition candidate for the presidency of Kyrgyzstan. «This is all lies,» he told reporters.
A diplomatic scandal occured between Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan after the meeting of the President of Kazakhstan with presidential candidate Omurbek Babanov. Bishkek accused Astana of trying to «influence the choice of the people» and interfering in the internal affairs of the republic. For their part, the Kazakh authorities noted that Nursultan Nazarbayev had previously held a similar bilateral meeting with Sooronbay Jeenbekov and during those meetings the Kazakh leader «didn’t support any specific candidate for the presidency of Kyrgyzstan.»
