Presidents of Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan want to quickly resolve all border issues

The Presidents of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan want to quickly resolve all border issues. They instructed in the near future to complete the process of delimitation of the remaining part of the border. The head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration of Kyrgyzstan Aizada Subakozhoeva told journalists today.

According to her, there are preliminary agreements on the remaining undemarcated sections of the border. Government groups of the two sides were to meet in a week, but they were instructed to begin work on October 7.

I believe that it is quite real to demarcate the remainder of the border till December 1. Over the past month, agreements have been reached on many issues that seemed to be not resolved. We can expect that this issue will be resolved.

She noted that the issue of borders should be viewed in a comprehensive manner. «Yes, in a year, serious agreements have been reached. But the parties have been going to it for more than 20 years. Work on the delimitation of the border was carried out, but in a slow regime,» the head of the department said.

«Both the Kyrgyz side and the Uzbek side worked. This does not mean that we began to do something only after Shavkat Mirziyoyev came to power. The approach has just changed, the will has emerged, and two leaders during the last meeting, and this time, showed unity of opinion on the need to further strengthen bilateral relations for the benefit of the two peoples. When we were preparing to sign the first contract, I was asked why we put a fat comma in the border issue. I can say that then we put a comma realizing that we will put a full stop soon,» concluded Aizada Subakozhoeva.
