Kumtor should work, among other things, for future, conducting geological exploration work. Member of the Association of Miners and Geologists of Kyrgyzstan Duishenbek Kamchybekov stated, commenting on a new agreement concluded between the government of the Kyrgyz Republic and Centerra yesterday.

«The other day, representatives of our association met with the Prime Minister Sapar Isakov to discuss prospects of further work of the gold mining enterprise. Sapar Dzhumakadyrovich asked to take part in the discussion of the new draft agreement between Kyrgyzstan and Centerra, to suggest which positions should be strengthened,» the expert says.

«We studied the economic efficiency of the project, got acquainted with the figures and believe that the agreement is drawn up correctly. As of today, this is the right decision, because it will put an end to environmental issues (Centerra allocates money to improve the situation in Issyk-Kul region) and settle disputes in Kyrgyz courts and international arbitration,» Duishenbek Kamchybekov said.

«We, mining engineers, scientists, geologists, are concerned about the future of Kumtor.» In a few years, the resources that are listed on the state reserve will deplete, so it is necessary to carry out geological exploration work for underground mining. We hope that the investor will consider and study such an opportunity, because this is our prospect. Kumtor should work," the expert believes.

According to him, members of the association repeatedly appealed to the former heads of the government, offered their assistance as consultants, but, unfortunately, did not get an answer.

«There are 35 people in our organization — academicians, doctors of technical sciences, candidates of sciences, and these specialists — with their rich experience and profound knowledge of the issue — should not stand aside,» Duishenbek Kamchybekov added. «We are very grateful that the new Prime Minister responded, received us and listened to all the recommendations.»
