OSCE to monitor developments in Kyrgyzstan before and after elections

The OSCE will monitor developments in Kyrgyzstan before and after the presidential elections. The ambassador and head of the OSCE / ODIHR mission Alexander Kelchevsky told at news conference in Bishkek today.

According to him, observers from 14 European countries will arrive. Their task is to monitor at polling stations.

«We will evaluate the elections for compliance with international standards. Kyrgyzstan must follow these principles. We will observe the local legislation is not violated. We are not interested in any results. We follow only these elections, not comparing them with the past or with elections in other countries,» Alexander Kelchevsky said.

He recalled that the traditional task of the OSCE is to observe the organization of elections. «We will monitor the consideration of complaints. Counting of votes and announcement of results should pass transparently. We are interested in the issue of media work. This is an integral part of our observations. We are interested in what will happen before and after the elections. The day before the elections, the OSCE will issue an interim report, and on the election day, preliminary data will be announced,» Alexander Kelchevsky said.
